The arrival of the new model: LG has confirmed that the new model will hit the markets very soon. Besides, many pictures of the new phone have been leaked, unravelling much of the new flagship handset.
Some sources claim that the new LG G7 may be introduced as LG 7 ThinQ in April. But, whatever be its name, the new handset will feature a unique screen notch design at the very top of the mobile phone.
Why are there so many rumours about the new handset?
There are so many rumours and leaks because the handset was not officially presented at MWC in February 2018, with ceding place, instead, for Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus and Sony Xperia X72.
For this reason, there is the possibility of a change in design since final release.
Besides design, there are also rumours engulfing the mobile market that the new handset will be introduced as LG G7 ThinQ.
In a nutshell
- It will be revamped compared to LG V30S ThinQ.
- April and May are expected launching date with a May release.
- The G6 was $729 (about £568, AU$967), but LG G7’s price can go high.
LG G7: Expected release date and price
As per latest rumours, the tech giant LG will launch LG G7 in April and the handset will be available in markets by mid-2017.
It overlaps with another leak that LG G7 will be released at the end of April or in May’s beginning and shipping is expected in May.
However, LG has officially confirmed the arrival of the new model without mention it by name.
At MWC 2018, there were rumours as reported by Gearburn that according to LG higher authorities, the new LG G7 launch and release may be little late.
Redesign: The Investor, quoting an anonymous official, leaked the inside news that the LG G7’s development team was ordered to shut down the process and start over again.
These rumours gain currency on account of non-presentation of the handset by the company at MWC 2018.
Price: But, the date of launch and release have no effects on the price. It will go around at least $749, the price of LG G6. If rumours are believed, then the price may rise by $90.
Comparing LG g7’s price with iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9: Although $749 price tag is an expensive deal but it is not as higher as are the tags of iPhone X and Galaxy S0.
LG: The expected new optional notch display design
As per a leaked video at MWC 2018, the LG has introduced a software and function enabling users to make a notch at the top of the display.
Users can project notch at the display as on the iPhone X or it can be hidden on the screen as on Samsung Galaxy S9.
How to do it?
Through the setting menu, although not shown in the edited video.
The advantage of optional notch screen
The optional notch gives a half-inch extra screen space at top right and left sides. Its enough space for important icons such as battery life, time and notifications.
Other LG rumours
The recently leaked images show notch display, most likely bezel-free screen, a power button on right side and a possible AI button on left side.
Specification: It is expected that new LG G7 will come with a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and many other high-end specifications. It will also surprise readers that specifications enabled it beating Samsung Galaxy S9.
Rebranding of handset
Another rumour by The Investor indicated rebranding of the new model, but there are few chances due to its popularity.
In fact, LG used name G7 for its new handset at its website and Twitter leaker @evleaks has confirmed name G7 for the new LG phone.
Screen technology
Many reports mentioned LG introducing OLED display in its late 2017 mobile phones. These reports were confirmed after the release of LG V30. But G series has always employed IPS LCD screens. This IPS LCD and OLED can be used to differentiate between two handsets.
The latest reports reported LG using LCD to keep prices low.
Speed and power
As LG G6 was criticised for using outdated Snapdragon 821, there are reports, such as by Aju Business Daily, the LG is at talks with Qualcomm to introduce Snapdragon 845 in new LG G7.
As the LG G7 has opted a complete overhaul and re-development of the handset, all the earlier leaks and rumours may not stand effective and true in future.
The rumours about 2018’s LG phone are derived from its outgoing G6, which was first major release with small bezels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It can be evaluated that new LG G7 will follow general design philosophy: a large screen in the tightly-packed build.
What to expect?
A curved screen
It can be expected that LG is going to introduce a curved edge screen. This expectation is based on the design of LG G6, which opted for a flat screen on the front and curved on back.
LG can learn from its competitor Samsung, how the latter refined its entire series with introduction and success of curved screen Galaxy S series.
So, its good time for LG to experiment with new lucrative design.
The latest Snapdragon chipset
Although using Snapdragon 821 was not a bad option, but its performance slowed down with Daydream. Meanwhile, Samsung introduced next-generation Snapdragon 835 short after the G6 release.
To level the scores, LG can introduce latest Snapdragon 845 to attract and gain the interest of hardcore audience demanding fast speed.
A removable battery
In many handsets, such as LG G4, LG G5, LG V10 and LG V20, the tech giant has introduced removable battery. So, there are many reasons to expect LG G7 with this feature.
As slimmer design may be a hurdle, so LG removed the option of swapping the batteries in its latest smartphone.
The last year Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery issues also encourage LG to go with removable battery option to address the needs and issues of its customers.
Quad DAC and wireless charging across the globe
The LG G6 was introduced with wireless charging in US and Quad DAC in other regions. Therefore, no ideal version of LG G6 is available in the market.
According to LG spokesperson, the company is likely to remove LG G6’s regional difference of hardware specification as per customer’s feedback.
